Let’s Learn About The Planets

THE MOON

The moon in the natal chart signifies what we need in our lives to feel safe. It is our unconscious programming, daily habits and automatic knee jerk reactions.

Our moon points to how we instinctively react to problems and situations. It is our marker for what must be present in our lives in order to for us to feel secure and grounded. It is also the manner in which we go about protecting ourselves. It speaks to the physical mother and women in general and it is both our inner child and inner care giver.

The moon in the birth chart is both feeling and irrationality. It is the source of our prejudices and instinctual behaviors. Knowledge gleaned without thought- intuition and hunches are products of the moon. Its placement shown by sign, aspect and house position in the birth chart shows how we act when we feel completely safe and comfortable… often when we are at home or alone with those closest to us.

THE SUN

The Sun in astrology is symbolic of our will and our life force. It is our consciousness, ego, life purpose and identity. The Sun indicates who we would become if we were to fully self-actualize. It is not a given at birth and is often underdeveloped as we must put forth continued effort to fully realize the characteristics represented by its sign, aspects and house placement in our chart. It is who we are striving to become and is always a source of reason as opposed to instinct. When we are constructively embodying our sun sign characteristics, we are purposeful, proud, self-assured and creative. When we are exhibiting the lower vibrational energies of this planet, we can be haughty, self-centered and judgmental.

VENUS

Venus in the natal chart governs two main areas of our lives, love and money. How we approach relationships, what we value, what we find beautiful, our tastes and our pleasures can be understood by looking at where our Venus is placed in the horoscope.

Venus also shows how we spend money. The assessment of whether or not something is “worth” its asking price is very much an issue governed by Venus. The types of gifts we buy and how generous or withholding we are when it comes to treating ourselves or someone else also belongs to Venus.

In a masculine chart, the sign, aspects and house placement of Venus can speak to those qualities found in his notion of the ideal woman. In a feminine chart, the sign, aspects and house placement of Venus can identify the qualities that a woman seeks to embody in order to feel valuable and desirable.

Venus rules attachments to others. It also rules the ability to attract what one wants as well as what we are attracted to. In Venus, we find a need to be appreciated and to appreciate and is often prominent in the charts of people who prefer harmony over strife.

When we are confidently expressing our Venus, we compromise, make peace, are loving, and act with taste. When our Venus expression is off balance, we can be self-indulgent, self-centered, vain, and superficial.

Mars also rules our sexual desire and shows our fighting style. Without this planet we would not be able to get out of bed in the morning. It is our drive, what we desire and our active energy. When we have a well-placed Mars, we are assertive, directed, forthright and adventurous. When we have an afflicted mars placement, we can be impulsive, impatient, aggressive or even passive aggressive. Mars in the chart speaks to those things that spark anger in us as well and our relationship to that anger.

JUPITER

SATURN

In astrology, Saturn is the planet that rules over the physical plane of existence. Whether or not that great idea that you have for a book ever becomes a reality is for Saturn to decide and the outcome depends on whether or not you have done the hard work required to manifest your idea into existence. Here in lies the rub, Saturn gives us exactly what we have earned. No more and no less. Hence the planet’s reputation as a taskmaster and bringer of delays and disappointments.

Saturn teaches us the limits of time and matter. It will not let us overstep our boundaries, or ignore our responsibilities and commitments. Saturn is the planet that brings structure to our lives.

It is associated with our earthly fathers and with authority figures in general. Its position in the chart can show where we may experience energetic blockages in the form of fears and feelings of inadequacy. Saturn’s gift, however, is the promise that by facing our fears, our weaknesses can then be transformed into our greatest strengths. It is only when we embrace Saturn in our birth charts, that we are given the profound gift of learning the meaning of our own lives.

URANUS

Real life can often be too harsh for those individuals with a strong Neptune in their charts and it is not uncommon to find such people working in the fashion or entertainment industries. Neptune ruled natives are also naturally drawn to jobs in the medical field or working with animals or children.

PLUTO

Pluto’s placement in the chart is where we either actively seek to change and transform or where change and transformation are trust upon us by external circumstances. If Pluto were to have a motto it would definitely be “Change or Die.”

It is associated with rebirth, obsession, the desire for absolute power and the need to control others. Pluto’s gift, if we choose to embrace his challenges is the opportunity to understand ourselves and life in general in the deepest way possible
